If you have a client to which training is perceived to be the final barrier to employment, Get In Gear Training may be able to help!

Get In Gear Training is able to, pending eligibility status, provide up to $500 for training for your clients.

Who is eligible?

At risk youth, aged 15-24 who:

  • Are not in school
  • Are unemployed or training is a condition of continued employment
  • Are not on any form of social assistance (EI, OW, ODSP etc)
  • Are eligible to work and be trained in Canada
  • Are being case managed by an Employment Counsellor in the Greater Toronto Area
  • Lack the financial support to access such training

Training funds will be granted based on referrals from counsellors at Get In Gear Training Partnering Agencies.


Essential Items

Items available to clients:

  • TTC tokens
  • Interview clothing
  • Work boots, hard hats, gloves
  • Phone cards
  • Hygiene products (such as toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant)
  • Up to a $100.00 in financial Aid for training/courses (Letter of acceptance required)

Each client has up to $100.00 available to purchase these employment critical items.

Once a client has reached their $100.00 limit they will no longer be eligible for items.

Clients can receive these items in two ways:

ON SITE:
Items are given to the client by an agency (small items such as phone cards and TTC tokens). The counsellor/agency is responsible for keeping track of the items given to the client through the use of our website.

OFF SITE:
The referring counsellor makes an appointment for the client with a Get In Gear outreach worker to receive the items. After the items have been received, the information will be entered into the client's records on our website.


How can your agency become involved?

Simply register your agency online with Get In Gear Training & Essential Items, by clicking on 'Agency Sign Up', and you will be on your way to being able to provide this service to your eligible clients. Upon registration, your agency will receive a username and login id to access the website. This will allow you to view GIG Training's online database of training providers - to aid in your search for appropriate training programs - have access to GIG Essential Item's inventory - register and refer clients and seek support with regards to the program as a whole.
